Today's expected range
for the Canadian Dollar against Sterling is 1.7890-1.7970
The US Dollar is mixed
this morning as it is stronger against the Loonie and Yen , and weaker against
the Euro and Sterling. In the UK the Pound is much higher as yesterday
afternoon a poll was released that showed the No side moving back in front,
this morning saw the Royal Bank of Scotland and other financial institutions
say they would move their head offices to London if the yes side won, this vote
will get much nastier as long as the Yes side stays close to get a winning
vote. In Other news the New Zealand Dollar fell dramatically and dragged down
other commodity currencies as the NZ Central Bank kept interest rates at
current levels and made the comment that the New Zealand dollar level was
"unjustified and unsustainable", a very dramatic comment if you want
to weaken your currency.
After spending the day
garnering strength yesterday the Loonie was smashed last night as USD.CAD
almost jumped 3/4 of a full point overnight. Given the movement in the other
currencies I am not sure why USD.CAD should jump so fast, but I think the New
Zealand announcement weighed on it and also the Obama announcement of sustained
attacks on ISIS may have created a degree of uncertainty in the North American
markets. The Loonie also lost a little ground to the Euro but lost a lot of
ground to Sterling on the back of the poll results.
Nothing on the economic
calendar today so I look for the Loonie to remain under pressure, with this increased
volatility, today could be the day that we see a sustained break higher for
USD.CAD.
