Before
I start this morning’s commentary just a quick further reminder never to accept
a change of banking information from a supplier or other party via email. We
had an instance this week where a client
received an email from a supplier updating their banking information for the
wiring of funds. After the wire was made the client discovered that the email
account of the supplier had been hacked and the new instructions were fraudulent.
It is a good idea to confirm any account details with suppliers on the telephone
before sending funds.
The
US Dollar is marginally weaker this morning as it retreated from its highs
against the Euro on the back of higher equity markets in Europe. The only news
of note overnight was the UK retail Sales report that showed sales were in
decline in March, further evidence that growth is suffering in the UK. Sterling
was initially lower both against the US Dollar and Canadian Dollar on the
report but has since recovered.
The
Canadian dollar has stabilized overnight after trading in volatile markets
shortly after the Bank of Canada announcement yesterday, the Loonie is
marginally stronger this morning but is not far off our Toronto close from
yesterday. I am not expecting much movement today, we do get the release of some
secondary US data including the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Index and the US Leading
Indicators for March, if we continue to see soft US data we may get a bit of a
spike today in USD.CAD.
