GFX Morning FX Commentary, JUly 4th, 2012

Good Morning,

Today's expected range for the Canadian Dollar against the US Dollar is 1.0100-1.0175

Today's expected range for the Canadian Dollar against the Euro is 1.2700-1.2775

Today's expected range for the Canadian Dollar against Sterling is 1.5810-1.5900

A very happy 4th of July to all our American friends.

The US Dollar is marginally stronger this morning as poorer than expected manufacturing data out of Germany have pushed equity markets and the Euro lower. With US markets closed for the day the markets will setup for tomorrow's ECB and Bank of England interest rate announcement where the markets are expecting an interest rate cut and further stimulus measures, a sure sign that the central banks are concerned about their respective growth. A big boost in stimulus should be positive for equity markets,  both Euro and Sterling and negative for the US Dollar.

The Canadian Dollar had a very narrow overnight trading range and with the holiday south of the border I am not expecting much activity today. The Loonie will continue to be influenced by events outside the country and if we do see stimulus emerge tomorrow from the continent then I would expect USD.CAD to drop further. This morning the Canadian Federation of Independent Business released their confidence survey and it reported that confidence among small and medium-businesses continued to fall in June, a clear sign that our economy is being affected by global events.

Have a great day
Mike
