GFX Morning FX Commentary

Good Morning,

Today's expected range for the Canadian Dollar against the US Dollar is 1.0850-1.0900

Today's expected range for the Canadian Dollar against the Euro is 1.4550-1.4600

Today's expected range for the Canadian Dollar is 1.8190-18240

The US Dollar is for the most part unchanged to start the new week. The Euro is unchanged from Friday's close but Sterling was a little stronger as Bank of England Governor Mark Carney was playing the interest rate game on the weekend. In an interview he stated that while he was worried about the lack of wage growth in the UK, he only needed the expectation of an improvement in wages before increasing interest rates, Sterling buyers jumped on this comment and reversed the recent trend of a weak Sterling.

The Canadian Dollar had a quiet night against its US counterpart as it settles in from Friday's revised Employment report and it certainly looks like it wants to range trade for the next little while.

This week’s economic front will be dominated by inflation data, The US report is due to be released on Tuesday and the Canadian report is to be released on Friday. Also this week US Federal Reserve Chairperson Janet Yellen speaks at the Jackson Hole yearly financial summit and the financial markets will be looking for any comments on the US economic recovery and specifically on interest rate hikes.

Nothing of note on the calendar for today so look for USD.CAD to range trade with possibly a further small appreciation of the Loonie.

Have a great week
Mike
